Max Hospital, Mohali

My father aged 85 years is under continued treatment for Metastatic Prostate cancer from Max Hospital, Mohali since Jan.2016 with monthly visits to the hospital.

His treatment is being managed thru’ CGHS and I have been accompanying him to hospital since 1/2016. But let me tell you, the dealing Doctor treats him so casually and during all his talks he tries to downgrade us for taking CGHS benefits. It appears that our subsidized bill every month does little to add to his appraisals and that is why he is so casual in dealing with us. No doubt that he is accountable to the Hospital being its employee BUT as a Doctor he is ACCOUNTABLE to his patients also.
However, being at the receiving end, We are not in a position to question him for the kind of medical treatment he is offering to my father and the general treatment being meted out to me as his attendant. The condition of my father is deteriorating day by day and whatever he has asked us during these 4 years of treatment viz. some tests/ change of medicines/ injections etc, we have complied with it.
Hope good sense prevails with this doctor who must recognize the fact that he is a Doctor at the end of the day and must always work as a facilitator between the patient and the hospital.

Max Patpadganj

I got my dad admitted in Max Patpadganj for getting him tested for lung infection and prostate enlargement. We got him admitted in the hospital for full check-up. Following were my key observations:

Callous staff: The nursing and housekeeping staff was callous. The sense of emergency was never there. They didn’t have stock of regular supplies. When after doctors infused plasma to my dad and it reacted severely, 2 canulas were required for the NS infusion, canulas were not available, nurses kept on saying they are coming in the room to attend but none came. After some hue and cry from a doctor on duty few nurses came and brought my father’s condition under control. I later realized that my father BP went to as low as 20 at that time. Situation was damn serious but the staff was not available.
Next day when my father’s biopsy was done, we were told that he was experiencing breathlessness after biopsy and he will be observed fo few minutes and if required will be shifted to ICU. When my dad was resting in the resting area there were few junior staff over there, and doctors had left. Few minutes gone by my father started sweating his BP fluctuating. After few mins when his situation was not improving I told the staff that doctors need to be called and my dad needed to be shifted in ICU. For an hour junior staff behaved callously , telling me that doctors are unreachable they will come, that they can’t shift my father to ICU directly. None cared about the condition of my father, they cared about passing the buck that’s it

2. Incompetent doctors : Doctors came outside the biopsy room and we requested to shift to ICU, but they were discussing with other doctors what should be done. They later shifted my dad to the ward room. His legs became immobile and the doctors were not available on the floor. We kept on asking for doctor and when they came after an hour they took another half an hour and shifted my dad to ICU. Guess what my dad had a massive heart attack during/after the biopsy and the incompetent doctor could only realize after several hours in the ICU. Incapable is the word for doctors at Max

3. A money -minting enterprise: And this should not be a surprise they are soulless money making enterprise. There are several junior doctors who will come for saying Hi in the ward room and later while billing we came to know we were charged for all that shit. They will get the tests done which are not required, they will make you stay more in the hospital so that they can bill you more. We told them that we had insurance they made sure we were highly charged. The worst part when they declared my dad dead in ICU , their processes took us 6 hours to get the dead body discharged.

What do I say man to a pathetic state of these large hospitals in India, just stay away. Look for 5 star facilities for the patients not for the attendants. My dad was not even diagnosed of what diseases he had. We came back empty handed. It took me sometime to gather what had happened and I felt immensely cheated.
